An accomplished business leader in the financial sector with a wealth of experience in the professional development and financial sphere, Edward is responsible for the Institute’s overall growth and sustainability. He also chairs the Future Skills Framework committee, which leads the development of the nation’s first future skills framework for the financial sector in Malaysia.
Prior to joining AICB in September 2021, Edward held various leadership positions in his 11 years of service at ACCA, including his previous role as Regional Portfolio Head — Maritime Southeast Asia following four years as Country Head of ACCA Malaysia, where he contributed significantly towards developing and driving growth-oriented strategies for ACCA across the region.
Edward received the Chief Executive’s Award from ACCA in 2017 and the Academic Excellence Scholarships from USA Groups in 2000. He holds an MBA in Operations Management Science from the University of North Texas and a BBA in Finance from Pittsburg State University. He is passionate about aviation and portrait photography and is an avid fan of the Civilization strategy game series.

Paul Denton has over 35 years 'experience in financial services. He has held several senior roles at RBS, NatWest and Co-operative Bank and has been the Chief Executive of the Scottish Building Society since 2019.
He joined the Institute as a member in 1988 completing the professional qualifications of the time (Associate / Members). Paul is proud to have been a Chartered Banker since its launch in 2000, a Fellow since 2004 and a Trustee since 2021.
He also has an MBA from Edinburgh Business School and a BA (Hons) from Abertay University. Paul is a member of the FCA Small Business Practitioner Panel, a member of UK Finance Mortgage Board and a Pension Trustee for the Building Societies Association.

Eric Leenders is a career banker with over forty years’ experience in retail banking, and is currently the Managing Director, Personal Finance, Prudential, Reporting and Taxation at UK Finance. He is also the non-executive vice-chair (and Risk Committee chair) of the Buckinghamshire Building Society, a non-executive director and chair of the HR and Remuneration Committee at Registry Trust Limited, and a vice president of the Institute of Customer Service.
He is professionally qualified as a chartered banker, holding an MSc in Banking Practice and Management and is a fellow of the London Institute of Banking and Finance and the Chartered Banker Institute. He is also a member of the Institute of Credit Management and the Worshipful Company of International Bankers and holds a post-graduate diploma in public relations.
Eric lives in Brighton with his wife and three children and is a keen (but slow!) runner and cyclist – and a lifelong supporter of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Jason has over 35 years of financial services experience and has been working with HSBC for the last seven years. Jason has had a broad experience during this time, working in different geographies and a variety of areas including frontline and head office roles, network management, regulated sales and project management before specialising in learning and development since 2007. He has over 25 years’ experience in people management and leadership, is CIPD qualified, a practitioner in MBTI, Insights Discovery and Korn Ferry psychometric assessments and is an Executive Coach.
Jason sits on the advisory board of the Financial Services Skills Commission and in his current role, Jason leads the People Capability function, holding responsibility for learning, talent development, leadership and early career talent for HSBC UK. He works with the bank's senior leaders and executives to define, attract and build the skills for today and tomorrow.

Tanya leads the development of the Institute’s portfolio of qualifications, education, and training, ensuring they are supporting the needs of professional bankers globally. Her remit includes delivery of the Institute’s strategic vision with continued growth and utilisation of the Institute’s Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) Academy.
In joining the Institute, Tanya brings over 25 years of banking experience from NatWest and RBS, with skills and capabilities across Learning and Development, Professional Qualifications, Digital enablement, Leadership and most recently CX and EX. She is a certified SAFe 5 Agilist and Executive Coach.

Joanne Murphy began her career in the early 1990s in London, working in television before transitioning into finance. She spent a decade at General Electric, becoming qualified in training and Six Sigma, and a further 10 years at RBS (now known as NatWest) in various roles.
Joining the Chartered Banker Institute post-financial crisis, Joanne developed and led the implementation of the CB:PSB Foundation Standard, helping over 340,000 individuals globally achieve a common standard of knowledge and behaviours. She also collaborated with Nottingham University to create a professionalism index for banking resilience and with YouGov to produce detailed research on perceptions of UK banking.
In 2014, Joanne became the Institute’s first Operations Director and the first female member of the Leadership team. She introduced the Core Values—Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation, and Excellence—and established the Member One Forum, leading to ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) recognition for the Institute. Joanne also heads their global membership forum, aligning member views with the Institute’s strategy.
After earning her MBA in Banking and Finance in 2016, Joanne pursued studies in Artificial Intelligence impact on Business Strategy with MIT Sloan School of Management. Her leadership and inclusive personality were pivotal during her tenure as COO and as Deputy CEO, especially during the global pandemic in 2020.
Joanne recently won the Accomplished Leader, Women in Leadership Award at the CCA Global Excellence Awards. This prestigious honour recognises her exceptional leadership skills, visionary impact on business and people, and unwavering dedication during her tenure as COO.
Joanne was appointed as Interim CEO of the Institute in May 2024.

Anja Hannerz is Group Head of Sustainability at Nordea with responsibility for managing the pan-Nordic team of experts driving Nordea’s strategic sustainability work including governance, disclosures, thematic analysis and regulatory implementation. She also holds the Nordic chair of the UNEP FI banking board and is a member of the Net-zero Banking Alliance steering group.
Anja has extensive knowledge and experience from the Nordic financial industry, after leading a variety of Group overarching business development initiatives and transformation projects within climate strategy implementation, risk infrastructure and financial steering.
Before joining Nordea, Anja held several different senior leadership roles within the Swedish commercial bank Handelsbanken Group, most recently as CFO Sweden and CRO of the mortgage institute Stadshypotek. She holds a Masters degree in Finance from Gothenburg school of Economics and Law and is based in Stockholm, Sweden.

Giles leads the Institute’s thought-leadership on ethical banking, particularly around the area of digital ethics. He has around 20 years' experience in the arena of professional education and professional standards. He has led a very wide range of education and professionalism projects to significantly diversify the work of the Chartered Banker Institute, developing major strategic programmes to diverse areas of the banking industry around the globe. In particular, he has specialised in developing a wide range of bespoke professionalisation programmes for banks, coupled with highly innovative accreditation services. These projects have reached many tens of thousands of banking professionals.
Giles holds a doctorate in AI and Professional Ethics, a degree in law, a Masters in education, and a Masters in applied professional ethics.
