AICB hosted the final session of our two-part Ethics Webinar Series in collaboration with The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) and Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) on 19 August 2020 at 10.30 am. Moderated by Shalini Pavithran, Chief Executive Officer of The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII), “Ethics and Technology: Will the Transition be Just and Orderly?”, focussed on the role of financial institutions in the development and application of new technologies that will bring about change to the industry and the wider society and economy. Ethics subject matter expert, Dr Simon Longstaff, Executive Director of The Ethics Centre, Australia shared his insights on the role of ethical restraint in harnessing the potential of technology while avoiding a dystopian future and the core principles needed to guide the development and application of new technologies to ensure a just and orderly transition. Dr Jasmine Begum, Director, Legal, Corporate & Government Affairs, Microsoft ASEAN & New Markets also shared her views on how data is the new asset class highlighting the need to protect privacy of data as a fundamental human right and discussed the importance of security, compliance and transparency in today’s digitally-charged world. The webinar was attended by close to 280 participants, who actively engaged with the speakers through the Q&A session and chats.
