Understanding the Digital Currency Landscape in Asia and Beyond

The rise and volatility of digital currencies have captured the excitement and attention of many in recent years. In Asia, the future of digital currencies seems positive despite being unregulated. However, governments are exploring these new forms of digital currencies to ensure that payments remain competitive, innovative and safe. A recent Bank of International Settlements (BIS) survey of central banks found that 80% were exploring their own central bank digital currencies — a percentage that is expected to rise further this year. There are many questions surrounding central bank digital currencies, and much progress has been made in exploring them in these last couple of years.

Understanding the Digital Currency Landscape in Asia and Beyond

Anella Munro, Professor of Economics at ASB brings with her over two decades of experience in international macroeconomics, macroprudential policy, asset pricing, monetary policy, and international finance at the Asian Development Bank, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, and the BIS.

To help central banks and banks think about the opportunities and risks presented by sovereign digital currencies, Professor Munro has begun teaching custom-built courses and executive education courses centred around digital payments and central bank digital currency. Come and join us for this talk, jointly brought to you by AICB and the Asia School of Business, in collaboration with MIT Sloan Management.
