A Passion for Purpose: Delivering a Just Transition to Net Zero

The world must reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 to stave off the worst effects of climate change. The onus is on governments, corporations and individuals to do their part. How do we accelerate low carbon opportunities when some of the most populous nations do not have a net-zero commitment?

The keys to bridging this divide are that governments must follow through on their own commitments to ensure the objectives of the Paris Agreement are met, with GHG emission reduction outcomes in the real economy, supported by finance that drives the transition.

A Passion for Purpose: Delivering a Just Transition to Net Zero

In this webinar, experts in sustainable finance will share their views on the various government initiatives to facilitate decarbonisation and transition towards renewable energy resources, including the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) in South Africa, which is supported by the US, EU, UK, France and Germany. The JETP features an initial commitment of USD8.5 billion, comprising financial instruments, including government grants, concessional loans and “risk-sharing instruments”, designed to close coal-fired energy plants and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Discussions will also centre on the importance of creating conditions conducive for the private finance sector to finance sustainable infrastructure and support the transition of carbon intensive industries into renewables and green-tech behemoths.
